STRESS!!!! It’s legit detrimental to our physical health. Science and medicine has known about this for years, but I think there’s still less mainstream awareness of what emotional and psychological stress is and how real the impacts on our bodies can be. I’ve noticed that still, any potential stress-related factors often remain unaddressed in treatment of some physical conditions and often individuals are unaware of any potential links.
Studying physiology I was exposed to a lot of research linking psychological and emotional stress to disease processes from the level of our cells to whole body systems and the scientific understanding of these processes over the years just keeps increasing.
Chronic stress can have impacts on our immune system, cardiovascular system, nervous system, endocrine system, reproductive system, musculoskeletal system, digestive system… Well, our whole bodies, really.
